“How can I make my portrait better?”

Here are a couple of things you can take into consideration before you have your portrait taken.

Clothing choices – When deciding what to wear for your portrait, the best advice we can give is to keep it simple.  Solid colors tend to be less distracting than patterns or prints.  After all, when someone sees your portrait, we want there reaction to be “You look great in that picture,” not “Cool shirt”.  For groups, everyone should keep to similar tones (light, medium or dark tones).  If everyone dresses in dark and one person decides to wear white, that one person will stand out above the rest.

Hair – Avoid getting a hair cut on the day of the portrait.  A fresh hair cut is easy to spot.  Hair tends to look more natural a couple of days later.

Make up – Like TV, photography has a tendency to diminish make up.   Make up also helps in the retouching process.  For example, if your child has fallen and scratched his chin, apply a little make up to help hide the scar.  We’ll retouch what is visible to the camera.

The most important thing you can do to make your portrait better is to smile and have fun! This shouldn’t be stressful.  Just relax and enjoy hanging out with your family.  Your happiness will shine through in your beautiful portrait from Ramsey Cloutier Fine Portraits.  To see samples of our work, please visit our website at www.rcfineportraits.com.

We are looking forward to meeting you!
